A program of Harold Hamm Diabetes Center, Camp Blue Hawk programs residential camps for children and teens, ages 9-17, with type 1 diabetes. Our camps focus on increasing campers’ confidence and diabetes self-management skills, facilitating the development of meaningful friendships between campers, and providing respite for families of youth with type 1 diabetes.

Our Mission

The mission of Camp Blue Hawk is to promote learning, enhance self-esteem, and foster independence in diabetes care in children and teens with type 1 diabetes in a safe camping environment.

How We Started

A long-time dream of Dr. Kenneth Copeland, Camp Blue Hawk was established in 2015 out of the Harold Hamm Diabetes Center. In it's first year, Camp Blue Hawk had 20 campers, and operated under the Cavett Kids Camp for children with chronic illnesses. In 2016, Camp Blue Hawk programmed its own camp for the first time with 48 camp attendees.

Current Programs

Camp Blue Hawk serves more than 500 Oklahomans annually (children and teens with diabetes, siblings, parents, and guardians) through our resident camps and recreation programs. Our most well known program is Camp Blue Hawk: Summer Camp, where 104 campers with type 1 diabetes gather for 5 days, and 4 nights of fun. Camp Blue Hawk is one of only two residential type 1 diabetes summer camp programs in Oklahoma. In addition to Summer Camp, we also offer Camp Blue Hawk: Teen Retreat, a weekend program specifically geared toward teens with type 1 diabetes and their unique needs.
